Dawlish Musical Theatre Company is thrilled to present the enchanting tale of Aladdin Jr this November, following our triumphant production of Frozen Jr which was praised as an "extremely tight production" that kept audiences "enthralled and definitely entertained throughout."
The Story
Join us on a magical carpet ride through the bustling streets and golden palaces of Agrabah! When street-smart Aladdin discovers a mysterious lamp containing a larger-than-life Genie, his whole world transforms in the most spectacular way. With three wishes at his disposal, Aladdin embarks on an adventure to win the heart of the spirited Princess Jasmine while outsmarting the scheming villain Jafar, who has dark plans for the kingdom.
Packed with beloved Disney songs including "Friend Like Me," "A Whole New World," and "Prince Ali," this junior version of the Broadway hit promises romance, adventure, comedy, and that special Disney magic that audiences of all ages adore. At its heart, Aladdin Jr delivers the timeless message that true treasure lies within – and that being yourself is the greatest magic of all.
Our Amazing Cast and Crew
After what can only be described as incredible auditions in August, we are absolutely thrilled with our fantastic group of young performers aged under 18. The talent, enthusiasm, and sheer dedication we witnessed during the audition process was truly exceptional – honestly, we could have cast this show three times over!
But Aladdin Jr isn't just about the performers on stage. We're equally excited about our young technical crew who are working behind the scenes to bring the magic of Agrabah to life. From lighting effects that will transport you to the Cave of Wonders, to costume changes that happen as if by magic, our tech team under 18 are proving that the future of theatre is in very capable hands.
Following Our Success
Our previous production of Frozen Jr received outstanding reviews, with professional adjudicator Mike Purnell praising our "Great Wall of sound" and noting how the audience was captivated throughout the performance. He particularly commended our young cast's ability to stay in character, the seamless teamwork, and the "extremely tight production" that flowed brilliantly from start to finish.
The review highlighted our company's strength in creating productions where young performers truly shine, with excellent harmonies, colourful costumes, and staging that keeps shows moving at "a lovely sharp pace." Most importantly, he noted our commitment to using only our young cast for all aspects of the production, keeping them involved and in character throughout – something we're continuing with Aladdin Jr.
